Welcome to the Texts of Taste Digital Archive. This archive hosts annotated, marked-up and otherwise notated nineteeth-century, American recipes and cookbooks.
Texts of Taste welcomes encounters with the archive in various forms. For instance, encountering our archive may take the form of recreating some of the recipes included here are even annotating the recipes (or annotations) yourself. Visitors are encouraged to read the recipes in any order or direction that suits them. Visitors are also encouraged to use the annotations in each recipe to think about how cookbooks are used in the nineteenth-century, whether annotations are focused on refining techniques or adapting recipes to changing technologies or even showcase an alternative use for a cookbook such as pressing flowers.
Texts of Taste also features exhibits in which team members recreate recipes from our collection. If any visitors choose to recreate any of the recipes from our collection, we would love to hear about your experience and feature your work in an exhibit.
Texts of Taste accepts contributions from visitors. Contributions may take the form of digital images of annotated, nineteenth-century recipes or exhibits recreating recipes from our collection. To contribute a recipe, please visit out Contribute page. To contribute an exhibit, please contact a member of our team through the Contact Us page.
